The Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures

The Anna Lindh Foundation is a unique foundation established and financed by 35 member states of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.  This partnership was born at the Lisbon Conference of 1995, with the objective of enhancing regional cooperation in economic, social, and cultural areas between member states of the European Union and countries of the Mediterranean basin.  The Foundation, which was created in 2004 at the Alexandria Library in Egypt, considers itself a coordinator of the national networks of member states.  It comprises 1,500 organizations in 35 countries.

The Foundation works mainly to promote inter-cultural dialogue through cooperation between civil society organizations in areas that include education and communication, with special emphasis on the youth. The Foundation believes that its objectives cannot be achieved except through consolidating cooperation in many areas such as human rights, democracy, development, knowledge, and social diversity for youth.  The long term objectives of the Foundation include restructuring the Euro Mediterranean region to make it a region of peace, mutual understanding, intercultural exchanges, and exchanges of expertise between the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean so its people may draw closer together.

The JID was chosen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as coordinator of the national network, and H.E. Dr. Muhyiddine Touq, former JID president was elected Chairman of the Foundation’ Board of Governors.  The Jordanian National Network, which comprises 20 members selected to represent different areas such as youth, children, women, arts, and education, work hard to present to the world a good picture of Jordan in its moderation and respect of all cultures and faiths.
