| 2002 | Law number 43 on the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy gave the JID an administratively and financially independent legal identity in order to: "build the capacity of human resources through training and research in diplomacy, strategy, and international studies, and highlight the role of Arab Islamic civilization in international relations." Pursuant to this law, and since the work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs required a highly trained corps of diplomats capable of representing Jordan and serving its interests abroad effectively, the JID was restructured to make it the principal executive tool for training Jordanian diplomats and others from different government organizations who are involved in diplomatic work. JID programs were restructured to focus primarily on the appropriate research, studies and training in all its aspects (politics, economics, culture, and security). And to ensure continuous coordination between the JID and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Foreign Affairs became by virtue of his position Chairman of the JID Board of Trustees, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry became a member of the Institute’s Council. | |
| 2012 | The Jordanian Cabinet decided on July 1st, 2012 to cancel JID's independent status and to become part of the organizational structure of the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. |
