International Collaboration To Address Humanitarian Questions
The Jordan Institute of Diplomacy hosted 30 senior humanitarian practitioners for a five day workshop between 20-24 January, 2008. The workshop examined international law and policy in contemporary war zones. The event marked a newly established international partnership between the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy and the Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research at Harvard University.
Dr. Salaheddine Al-Bashir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, presented the keynote address for the workshop. Meanwhile, participants have discussed the protection of civilians in conflict, in terms of human rights, Islamic law, urban warfare, and the use of private military contractors.
Attendees included professionals from governmental agencies, the United Nations and international non-governmental organizations.
