Under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Nasser Judeh,
the Regional Center on Conflict Prevention at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy in cooperation with
the Delegation of the European Union to Jordan held a one-day seminar on “The Constitutional Reforms in Jordan:
a successful way for Implementation, the Jordanian and EU perspectives”.
The seminar brought together around 60 European and Jordanian experts, academics, university students,
civil society representatives, representative of EU Member States and other Embassies and Jordanian government.
They discussed several topics, including the meaning and implementations of democratic reform from a global perspective,
the impact of the global economic crisis on reforms, the requirement of successful constitutional reforms and
the impact of different cultural approaches in the reforms.
The seminar hosted eminent speakers from both Europe and Jordan, including Polish Ombudsman,
Irena Lipowicz , Spanish Member of Parliament, Jordi pedret, Jordanian Members of Parliament,
Mr. Moshammad Halaiqa and Ms. Wafa Bani Mustafa.
Remarking on the seminar, Joanna Wronecka, EU Ambassador to Jordan said:
“ We have a lot to learn from each other, and events such as this seminar are one avenue towards this end,
she added that such an exchange of lessons learned is invaluable for innovative ideas towards a better future for all”.
In his speech at the opening session, Dr. Mustafa Nawayseh, Acting President of the JID welcomed the guests and participants,
adding that “ Jordan was created on the foundations of freedom, unity and equality; and the constitutional amendments,
ordered by H.M. king Abdullah II, reflect the level of political maturity reached by the Jordanians”.
Dr. Hasan Momani, Director of the Regional Center on Conflict Prevention said:
“ Jordan has constitutional legacy back to its establishment 1920, and the recent reforms are a continuation of this legacy”.
On the relation between the EU and Jordan , Dr. Momani said: “ the relations between Jordan and Europe have been strong for decades and
we hope they continue and deepen”.
H.E. Mr. Mohammad Daher, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
who opened the seminar on behalf of H.E. the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nasser Judeh said:
“ the process reforms in Jordan began years ago under the leadership of H.M. King Abdullah II in all fields of political,
economic and social. He added that there are string relations between Jordan and the EU countries”.
