for twenty participants from Al Hikma Pharmaceutical Company. At the end of the program,

Dr. Omar Rifai, President of the JID participated in the 2nd International Forum for the Challenges
of Peace Operations which was held in New York during Nov.
10-13, 2009 under the title " A New Horizon for Peace Operations Partnership- What are the Next Steps?".
The Forum was organized by the Folke Bernadotte Academy.

A group of overseas volunteers from the Korean International Cooperation Agency visited the JID.
Dr. Hasan Al Momani, Director of the Regional Center on Conflict Prevention met with the volunteers
and briefed them on the Jordanian Foreign Policy.

In the presence of Dr. Omar Rifai, President of the JID,
Mr. Patrick Renauld - Head of the Delegation of the European Commission in Jordan and Mrs.
Charlotta Sparre - Ambassador of Sweden to Jordan- talked to the new diplomatic attachés.
Ambassador Renauld talked about the history of the establishment of the EU and the challenges that faced it;
while Ambassador Sparre’s talk focused on the role of Sweden’s presidency of the EU and the priorities of its work,
i.e. the climate and environmental changes.

Around 30 representatives from different NGOs attended a training workshop organized by
the Regional Center on Conflict Prevention at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy in partnership with
the German Konrad Adenauer Stiftung to prepare a manual on conflict prevention to provide local and
regional social workers with practical tips and case studies.

[19/8/09]:
During their visit to the Institute Dr. Omar Rifai,
President of the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy met with a delegation of 10 students from German universities.
Dr. Rifai welcomed the delegation and briefed them on the functions of the Institute.
Following that Dr. Hasan Al Momani, Director of the Regional Center on Conflict Prevention at the Institute,
reviewed the establishment, development and activities of the Center.
This was followed by a discussion with both Dr. Rifai and Dr. Momani. At the end of their visit, the students toured the Institute.

The Jordan Institute of Diplomacy organized a training program for 29
participants from the National Economic Development Board in Libya,
from June 28 - August 19, 2009. At the end of the program Dr. Rifai,
President of the Institute, presented certificates to the participants,

[10/8/09]:
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of
Political Development and the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy in order to promote
joint cooperation between the Ministry and the Institute. The agreement will
allow for the two to exchange experiences, consultations and publications,
as well as provide for the organization of specialized training programs on principles
of political development and international relations, in addition to the establishment
of joint activities. The agreement was signed by His Excellency Eng. Musa Al-Ma’aytah,
Minister of Political Development and Ambassador Dr. Omar Rifai,
President of the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy.

[22/7/09]:
The President of the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy, Dr. Omar Rifai, inaugurated a program for new diplomatic attachés, which began on Wednesday, 22 July 2009. In his opening remarks, he welcomed the participants, assuring them that the Institute would provide a positive atmosphere throughout the nine-month program. He warned the participants that their diplomatic work, which began at that moment, would require precision, excellence, hard work and serious use of all the skills and information that the program will provide. Dr. Rifai added that their diplomatic path has only just begun, and there will be many opportunities along the way for them to prove that they are ready for such a responsibility. Diplomacy is not like a traditional career; it is a way of life that demands initiative and the ability to forge solid relationships with all people. At the end of his remarks, the President wished the participants luck and success in the service of their country, representing the best of Jordan.

[7/7/09]:
A delegation of 70 participants in the program “Judges of the Future”,
organized by the Judicial Institute of Jordan,
visited the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy,
where the delegation met with Mr. Hassan Anbari,
the President’s Advisor for International Affairs.
He spoke with the participants about the vision of the Institute and its mission,
which seeks to support Jordanian diplomacy by training diplomats capable of effectively
executing their tasks and helping support political and strategic decision
makers with policy options and studies. Mr. Anbari addressed the importance of law
and its role in diplomatic work in particular. He also highlighted the relationship
between the judiciary and international law, and the importance of preparing judges to
face various issues optimally.

In the presence of Dr. Mohammad Hasan El-Barghati,
Ambassador of Libya to Jordan, Dr. Omar Rifai,
President of the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy,
commenced the training program organized by the Institute of
Diplomacy for the National Economic Development Board in Libya.
Dr. Rifai welcomed the participants and thanked the National Economic Development
Board for its trust in the Institute. He also reiterated the Institute's intent to
provide a program that will meet the participants requirements. The Libyan Ambassador
noted the strong Libyan-Jordanian relationships and the success of previous training programs
at the JID for Libyan participants. The program will be held from June 28- August 20,
2009 for 30 trainees. It will consist of lectures, workshops, field visits to organizations related to the focus of the program,
in addition to the practical application of several subjects including public relations, communication skills, protocol,
etiquette and conducting conferences and meetings.

In the presence of the JID president Dr. Omar Rifai, Dr. Richard Dekmejian, Professor of Political Science
at the University of Southern California, addressed a select audience on "The Changing Regional Situation".
He focused on strategic changes in the Middle East, discussing Syria, Lebanese elections, the Peace Process, Iraq,
and the current economic situation.
Following the lecture,
discussion continued as the audience asked further questions on various topics from his
theories on fundamentalism to his thoughts on US President Obama’s efforts in the Middle East.

on "Protocol and Etiquette".
Twenty- four participants from different organization participated in the
program. At the end of the program, Ambassador Omar Rifai, President of

the president of the institute and their instructors.

Egypt. Professor Kamel Abu Jaber, Editor of the Jordan Journal for International

The Jordan Institute of Diplomacy organized a three-day training program on "Managerial and Administrative Performance" for public and private sector employees. The program aimed to upgrade the role of managers in the comprehensive management process transforming them from appointed managers to effective leaders. It raised the standard of participating managers by empowering them to fulfill their tasks, and qualifying them for further promotion.

A group of overseas volunteers from the Korean International Cooperation Agency visited the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy. Dr. Yaseen Istanbouli, Director of Training met with the volunteers. He explained the principles and guidelines that govern Jordanian Foreign policy regarding the region and the world.
The meeting was a part of an intensive program aimed at enriching the volunteers' knowledge and understanding of Jordanian culture, society and national concerns. |

In April 2009, the Regional Centre on Conflict Prevention at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy in conjunction with Ghent University (Belgium) organized a dynamic program for 37 students, earning Advanced Masters Degrees in Conflict and Development. The degree covers a broad range of the issues and challenges facing the Middle East region. This includes an introduction to the region’s conflicts and political trends, as well as social, economic, and cultural development in the Middle East.
