The Programs of International Association for Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research

Humanitarian professionals from all over the world gathered at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy in Amman to discuss the application of International Humanitarian Law to their work. In his opening remarks Ambassador Hussein Hammami, President of the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy, welcomed participants and said, "If International Humanitarian Law is to be applied it would simplify the arrival at political settlements in the region". He addressed the misrepresentation of Islam and expressed his hope that participants will have a new perspective following the program. Claude Bruderlein, President of HPCR International stated that "these training programs promote a professional dialogue essential to the implementation of International Humanitarian Law in the Middle East".

The programs, from February 22- March 1, 2009, organized by the International Association for Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research focus on topics of Humanitarian Law and Policy, Occupation Law and Peace-building and Islamic Sharia and Protection of Civilians. Speakers include Lt. Michael Bahar, Judge Advocate General Corps, US Navy, Anthony Dworkin, Executive Director, Crimes of War Project and Katie Sams, Head of Civil Society Relations Unit, International Committee of the Red Cross.
