The Regional Center on Conflict Prevention
The Regional Center on Conflict Prevention (RCCP) was established by Jordanian law in 2004, to be a non-profit research center within the JID in Amman. The RCCP was established through a joint initiative by the ministries of foreign affairs of Jordan and Italy.
Objectives |

The Center was established to create awareness of the means for early detection of possible conflict between states of the region or within one state, and to prevent disputes from erupting into violence. The RCCP also works to build capacity to resolve such conflicts peacefully, and to reach the root causes of problems in order to resolve them.
To achieve these objectives, the RCCP develops mechanisms for public policy management in the context of possible crises and conflicts, by conducting specialized academic activities for conflict resolution, and making the conclusions and recommendations that result from these activities available to decision makers, researchers, and interested parties. In light of the above, the activities of the RCCP include:

Research Projects |
Since its establishment, the RCCP focused on research to achieve its objectives. This focus has produced two principal achievements, the Conflict Prevention Database, and its own specialized working papers. Among its most recent study projects are the following:

Conflict Prevention Database |
| The Institute for International Studies in Rome developed a special database on inter-state conflict, which shows indicators of conflict in the Mediterranean region. This database is the first nucleus for a conflict prevention regime in the region, since it provides organizations with a database containing economic, political, social, and security indicators that can be used as early signs of conflicts between states in the region or within a state. This database of conflict helps analyze possible conflict on the local and regional levels, which helps decision makers and activists in this area to deal with the causes of conflict before it erupts. The Center completed the database of conflict for Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Israel, and Turkey. The RCCP also expanded the scope of the Conflict Prevention Database to include countries contiguous to the Mediterranean basin, and work is underway to complete the database of conflict for Iraq |
Activities

The Arab Partnership for Conflict Prevention and Human Security |
| The RCCP is a member of the Steering Committee of the Arab Partnership for Conflict Prevention and Human Security which was formed under the umbrella of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict. This partnership is an international initiative that brings together civil society organizations to enhance their role in conflict prevention through cooperation with governments and the UN. The RCCP participated in the three regional meetings that were held in February, April, and December 2005, and in the activities of the international conference: "From Reaction to Prevention: Civil Society Supports the Partnership for Conflict Prevention and Building Peace" which was held at the UN in July 2005. |

The Consortium of Institutes for Security and Regional Cooperation in the Middle East |
| The RCCP is a member of the Consortium of Research Centers that was established in February 2005, which also includes Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies (Cairo), the Gulf Research Center (Dubai), L'Institut Diplomatique et de Relations Internationales (Algiers), and the Tariq bin Ziyad Center (Rabat). The Consortium aims to draft a charter on security and regional cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa based on past experience in other regions that created a framework for cooperation and enhancing regional security with the aim of creating a formula appropriate for all Middle East's conditions and needs. The RCCP took part in two meetings of the Consortium, the first in Rabat in June 2005 and the second in Alexandria in October 2005. The RCCP organized the third meeting in Amman in May 2006. |

The Euro Mediterranean Study Commission (EuroMeSCo) |
| The RCCP is a member of the EuroMeSCo, a network of independent research centers and academic centers that specialize in the study and analysis of foreign policy. The EuroMeSCo was officially formed in June 1966 when the inaugural conference was held in the city of Sesimbra in Portugal. EuroMeSCo members represent 35 countries that are member states of the Euro Mediterranean Partnership, on the basis of equality in membership between all states. The EuroMeSCo works to prepare official research and to disseminate information related to this research and to the Euro Mediterranean Partnership. The EuroMeSCo is the official body assigned to measure the level of confidence in the Euro Mediterranean Partnership. In addition to exchange programs, the EuroMeSCo organizes a number of research activities, seminars, and field surveys to consolidate understanding of issues of common interest in the region. |

Future Conferences and Activities |

In the context of future activities, the RCCP will provide a number of opportunities for trainees and other interested parties to facilitate the process of exchanging ideas and research in the area of conflict prevention.
